Normal sudoku rules apply, and each row/column with clues has a sandwich clue and a battlefield clue. Sandwich clues sum the digits between the 1 and the 9, and Battlefield clues sum the digits in the overlap or gap between two advancing armies of length X and Y where the X/Y are the first digits seen from each end.
