Numbers in the perimeter (ie outside the 9x9 sudoku grid) are "sandwich sudoku clues" - they give the sum of the cells sandwiched between the 1 & 9 in their row/column. Along thermometer shapes, digits must increase from the bulb end. Any thermometer cell in the perimeter cannot contain a 0 but need not be a digit from 1 to 9.
